Hypoxen belongs to the antihypoxants and antioxidants, which reduce oxygen consumption and increase the body’s performance in extreme situations. Hypoxen was synthesized in the mid-70s, jointly by the Institute of High-Molecular Compounds and the All-Union Research Institute Of High-Frequency Drug Purity, and has passed numerous clinical investigations,e.g. at the Department of Rehabilitation and Sports Medicine of the Russian State Medical University (Moscow). Since 1996 it is allowed to medical application. Historically, in chronological order, it was called Biotop, Polifen, Olifen and finally in 2000 it was renamed to Hypoxen.
The antihypoxic efficacy of Hypoxen is based on its ability to bypass the 1st and 2nd complexes of the respiratory chain of mitochondria, inhibited due to hypoxia . On the one hand, Hypoxen is able to increase the efficiency of oxygen use due to the mating effect, caused by a specific interaction with the 1st complex of the mitochondrial respiratory chain. On the other hand, Hypoxen changes the conformation of porphyrin in such a way, that it reduces the affinity for oxygen. At the same time, the modification of ion-transport systems of erythrocyte is happening. As a result, the oxygen bound by hemoglobin is more easily desorbed and diffuses into cells, and CO2, on the contrary, is more intensively bound by the porphyrin complex of the erythrocyte. The result of these reactions will be in the restoration of cellular respiration.
Thus, Hypoxen, on the one hand, activates the system of oxygen transport from the red blood cell to the tissue cell, and on the other, provides continuity and intensity of the flow of reducing equivalents from the 1st to the 3rd complex of the respiratory chain, bypassing, apparently, ubiquinone link. Alternatively stated, Hypoxen restores the generation process of the high-energy bond, disturbed or interrupted by different pathological processes.
